Osteopathic Sports Massage at CW Osteopathy

What is the difference between Osteopathic Sports Massage and Sports Massage?

The difference between a Osteopathic Sports Massage and a ordinary Sports Massage, is that a Osteopathic Sports Massage is a specialised, deep-tissue therapy designed to treat injuries, ease muscle tension, improve flexibility, or offer a moment of relaxation. Osteopathic principles are incorporated by focusing on the body mechanics, restoring structural function and enhancing recovery from injury or internal stress responses. This makes it useful for both injury rehabilitation and preventative maintenance treatment.

The treatment is mainly deep-tissue based, but if we feel further treatment types need to be used to help achieve the desired outcomes, then we will communicate with you and proceed to provide whatever treatment you are comfortable with. Spinal adjustments, Joint Articulations, Muscle Energy Techniques, PNF, and Tendon Friction Treatment are of the many we treatments we provide.

Does it hurt?

Osteopath’s are medically trained to understand each person limitations through palpation, examination and stretch-reflex response of the muscle tissue while the treatment takes place. Pressure is applied through hand, wrist, forearm or elbow movement to your muscle tissue. Difference in pressure is applied dependent on the tone of the muscle, and the response time of physiological change of the muscle during the treatment.

Constant communication between you and the Osteopath is a priority to reassure your comfortability while having the treatment.

Whether you are wanting a tight area to be worked on, recently experiencing high stress levels, or wanting pre and post competition treatment, we will cater the treatment type dependent on your requirements.

Who is this treatment for?

Osteopathic Sports Massage focuses on the soft tissues (muscles, tendons and fascia), to treat injuries, trigger points, chronic tension or on a maintenance basis.

This treatment type of is great for pre & post-event preparation to reduce the risk of injury, but increasing mobility, correcting the skeletal biomechanics, reducing muscle tension and maintaining tendon health.

Having a Osteopathic Sports Massage as a preventative and maintenance therapy, especially after recovering from an acute episode of pain, enables soft tissues to continue healing and build resilience to prevent the episode from reoccurring.
